Wilmette originally was a forested area with high bluffs along its lakeshore. Before European settlement, members of the Potawatomi tribe lived in the area that would later become Wilmette. A number of early settlers worked small farms in the area, many of them near the lakeshore and was officially incorporated in 1872 as the Village of Wilmette. There is so much to do in the area from walking and biking, visiting the lake, French Market or even the Historical Museum. The picture on the top of this page features a home where we removed a tired, weathered cedar shake roof and replaced it with an attractive high-quality CertainTeed shingle. We further improved the style and design by installing copper in all of the valleys on the roof. The end result was an attractive, functional roof that will look great for decades to come and will provide the necessary protection for the inside of the home.
On the other hand, traditional homes may have a portion of the roof that is a flat roof. That flat roof area may be a second-floor balcony or second or third floor deck space.
